About Bishop Gbuji

Most Rev. Dr. Anthony Okonkwo Gbuji, the Emeritus of the Enugu Catholic Diocese, had a distinguished career in the Catholic Church. Born in 1931, he was appointed the first Bishop of Issele-Ukwu in 1973 and later became the Bishop of Enugu in 1996.

Bishop Gbuji is known for his visionary leadership and academic excellence, earning degrees in theology and canon law. He played a crucial role in the expansion of Issele-Uku Diocese, establishing seminaries, schools, and evangelization projects.

Even in retirement, he continues to contribute to the Church, building churches and promoting education. Bishop Gbuji’s dedication, humility, and commitment left a lasting impact on all who encountered him. Bishop Gbuji founded the New Evangelization Sisters (NES).

The Evangelization Foundation is a nonprofit initiative with a mission to offer comprehensive knowledge, faith deepening in Christ, and skills development to Christ’s faithful of all age groups.

It focuses on several key areas, including the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA), fostering Small Christian Communities (SCC) in homes, zones, and parishes to promote faith enrichment, preparing couples for Christian marriage, providing pastoral care for families, facilitating marital reconciliation and healing, utilizing social media for evangelization, and conducting research programs.

Bishop Gbuji championed NERAM's growth, founding it within Godfrey Okoye University's Philosophy and Religious Studies Department, enhancing faith and evangelization skills.

Writing of Spiritual Books

Bishop Gbuji wrote faith-enriching books on evangelization, pastoral care, marriage, family, and Catholicism, nurturing spirituality and religious excellence.

Bishop Gbuji fostered clergy development by building St. Felix Minor Seminary, Ejeme-Aniogor, and the Emmaus School of Evangelization, enriching religious education.

Family Apostolate: Preparing Couples for a Successful Marriage

Bishop Gbuji prioritized family apostolate, strengthening bonds through his dioceses' programs for intending and married couples.

Agric-Technology and Entrepreneurship in Evangelization
